Significance of Gauripur Tagore House, Kalimpong: - Let’s check out why Gauripur Tagore House of Kalimpong is famous (popular) and attracts tourists. Tagore House of Kalimpong is also known as 'Chitra Bhanu', 'Protima Tagore House', and 'Gauripur House'. Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore's daughter-in-law Protima Tagore built this House to train women of Hills in Arts & Crafts way back in 1930's. Kalimpong's Chitra Bhanu later on became Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore's summer destination because whenever Rabindra Nath Tagore visited Kalimpong, he stayed here. Rabindranath Tagore had celebrated his 78th Birthday in Gauripur House of Kalimpong. Kabiguru wrote few poems named 'Janmadin', Jaksha', 'Maya' & 'Jarathikali' in the year 1938 when Rabindra Nath Tagore stayed here at Gauripur House, Kalimpong for almost 52 days. After 2 years, in the year 1940 Kabiguru Rabindra Nath Tagore penned poems named 'Jalil Sansar', 'Apaghat', 'Namkaran' etc. On 25th April 1940 [25 Baisakh, 1345 Bengali Calendar], Rabindranath Tagore recited his poem 'Janmadin' from this Gauripur Tagore House of Kalimpong through telephone system and broadcast live on All India Radio. This is the first ever Telephone Line connected Kalimpong & Kolkata. Kabiguru's last visit to Gauripur House of Kalimpong was on 28th September, 1954.

The recent condition of this Heritage House is not well because Gauripur House of Kalimpong is now in ruins. Kalimpong's Tagore House (Gauripur House) was damaged highly in September 2011 because of Earthquake in North-East India. Heritage House i.e., Tagore House of Kalimpong is now surrounded by overgrowth grass & weeds and the structure itself is on the verge of collapsing any moment.

Gitanjali Museum at Bolpur is one of those along with Eklabya School of Kankhutiya, IT Hub of Bolpur, Rajnagar Hostel & few Railway projects that were inaugurated by Paschimbanga Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Gitanjali Museum Bolpur: - Ms. Mamata Banerjee had initiated this Gitanjali Museum Project of Bolpur to show homage & tribute to Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore while she was the Minister of Indian Railways in 2010-2011. Gitanjali Museum of Bolpur is the project started by Eastern Railways under the direction of Ms. Mamata Banerjee to establish a Museum storing those things that were used by Rabindranath Tagore. On 27th July 2012, in the presence of Indian Railway Minister Shri Mukul Roy, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the first-ever Museum of Indian Railways i.e. ‘Gitanjali Museum of Bolpur’.
Gitanjali Museum of Bolpur is two-storied Museum where every available thing related to Rabindranath Tagore has been kept for the people to see & to know. People will get to see the ‘Property papers used to buy the land of Shantiniketan by Debendranath Tagore’, ‘Documentations of various deals made by Rabindranath Tagore family’, ‘unseen rare photographs of Rabindranath Tagore & family’, and many more historical things. The main attraction of Gitanjali Museum of Bolpur is the ‘Train Coach’ in which Rabindranath Tagore was taken to Kolkata from Shantiniketan just before his death.
