Common Admission Test (CAT) Exam Details
Eligibility Criteria for appearing in CAT (Common Admission Test): - Who can seat in the Common Admission Test (CAT) examination? What is the minimum educational qualification required to seat CAT exam? Candidates who have passed their Bachelor Degree (Graduation) at least with 50% marks [45% marks for SC/ST candidates] are eligible to appear in CAT exam. Candidates appeared in the final examination of degree level or waiting for the result of their final degree level examination are also eligible to seat Common Admission Test (CAT) examination.

CAT (Common Admission Test) Exam Pattern & CAT Question Paper Details: - CAT (Common Admission Test) is a computerized examination, where candidates not required answering on Answer-sheet. The total examination is taken on online method on computer. CAT Examination has two parts – (1) Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and (2) Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. Total time given for CAT (Common Admission Test) is 2-hours & 35 minutes that includes a tutorial session of 15 minutes. Tutorial session will help the candidate to understand the CAT exam software platform & will help to understand what buttons to click like ‘next’, ‘previous’, ‘mark’, ‘review’ etc . Because, once the CAT Exam starts there will be no ‘Break’ in between of two papers and automatically ‘system timer’ will start working. Candidates will be getting only 2 hours & 20 minutes to answer two papers (parts) – 1 hour & 10 minutes for each paper (section). It’s mandatory to answer the Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation section first and then the 2nd section i.e., Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning section. There will be total of 30 Questions in each of two sections of CAT exam papers. In case of CAT Exam Paper-1 (Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation) – approximately 21 to 24 questions come from Quantitative Aptitude part and rest (6 to 9) questions come from Data Interpretation part [Total 30 questions]. In case of CAT Exam Paper-2 (Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning) – Normally questions come from three sections (a) Reading Comprehension [10 questions], (b) Verbal Ability [11 questions] and (c) Logical Reasoning [9 questions]. Negative marking for answering wrong is applicable in CAT – right answer will fetch 3 marks and wrong answer will deduct 1 mark.

CAT qualified candidates required to appear in GDPI (Group Discussion & Personal Interview) for admission to Management Institutes. This GDPI session conducts by Management Institutes only as per their norms. Normally, a group of candidates [total 7/8 candidates] are required to discuss on a given topic for around 15 minutes in the Group Discussion round. Then a Personal Interview session of 10-20 minutes is conducted by Management Institutes. In some Management Institutes (B-Schools) also organized a written test. So, to get admission to best Management Institutes of India, one has to seat CAT exam followed by GDPI.
